Sump Pump Waterproofing

Sump Pump

Hello friends.

Today we want to tell you about the waterproofing and protecting your household from the water outside of your home. Specifically, we are talking about installing a sump pump. All the water that you use in your home eventually enters the drain system and exits to the city sewer system to the wastewater treatment plant.
External water is rain or melting snow. In some cases, it can be very uncomfortable when it comes to your household uninvited. So what can you do yourself to prevent the ingress of water into the house?

sump pump

It is very simple – increase the distance from the wall to the spot where the water falls from the roof. Even during not so heavy rain, a lot of water may accumulate near your walls and get through into the basement. The best solution – to waterproof and install a sump pump. Recall that for the installation of a sump pump you get a rebate from City of Toronto up to $1750.

Waterproofing

There are many arguments for waterproofing. Water that enters the wall to the level of frost line freezes in winter, the volume of ice is greater than the volume of water. The water will melt and increase the size of the slits in the wall, making your basement vulnerable and allowing water to pass through. This water can make your basement uninhabitable. In the context of real estate prices in Toronto this is particularly important. If you decide to make a finish in your basement, start with replacing the drain and waterproofing, to avoid unpleasant surprises in the future.

Drain Repair with Pipe Replacement

Drain Repair

Hello friends.

Today we want to tell you more about full and partial sewer pipe replacement, which are a crucial part of the drain repair process.

If you happen to have any problems with your system, we will conduct a camera inspection to determine the location and the cause of the problem. Usually, problems are caused by either roots in pipes, pipe collapse, an overflowing building trap, a foreign object that is blocking the whole drain system, or the lack of a slope.

drain repair blockage pipe clear

After inspection, we determine the best way to eliminate the blockage, and, subsequently, repair the drain. It usually suffices to dig out a pit and replace the problematic piece of the pipe, followed by an obligatory installation of a back-to-back cleanouts. With the help of the cleanout you can always see what’s happening in your sewer system.

After installing the cleanout we perform another camera inspection and check again the entire drain system and conclude whether our drain repair process was effective. If the sewer line still has problems, then we write up a report, and, if necessary, continue to work to address the problems. It is up to you.

In case of serious problems with your system, it is much cheaper and safer for you to change the entire sewer system and install a backwater valve.

Backwater Valve

We would like to elaborate a little on the topic of the backwater valve. There is an active City of Toronto program, under which the installation of a backwater valve will get you a rebate of 75% of the cost of, up to $ 1250 in total. In addition, the installation of backwater valve to helps reduce the price of your home insurance. It can help prevent a wet, leaky basement. We can install a backwater valve for your household either inside or outside of your home with the full or partial replacement of your sewer system.

Note that sometimes, 8 or even 10 fitting pipes are required to properly install a backwater valve due to the construction of the device.

For us, licensed AAADrain professionals, there are simply no unsolvable problems in matters of sewage, waterproofing, and water service. We have 15 years of experience in GTA and surrounding areas. Floor Drain Problems and Solutions

Floor drain

Hello friends.

As you can tell, today we want to tell you about floor drains.

Why floor drains?

This is a relatively small portion of your sewer system, but it is a very important one. Floor drain should be present in every house, located near the hot water tank. That is if anything goes wrong with your hot water tank, the hot water will flow straight to the floor drain.

So, what is a floor drain?

floor drain design

Briefly and technically, it is usually a p-trap, or even better, a running trap. In Toronto, the floor drain is used to connect the sanitary line to the storm line, and if it has any problems, it can cause basement floods during rain, as all the rainwater from roofs flows through them. Even with relatively modest amounts of rain water, it will fill up 30-40% of the cross flow pipes. Therefore, the floor drain must always be in good standing, so that the water will run through it without any problems, and without losing speed.
If there are any problems, it is necessary to replace it, because due to its design the drain cannot be completely cleaned.

Note that floor drain is a trap, and unlike a building trap it should not be replaced with a cleanout, as they carry out different functions. Floor drain is set up in the unfortunate event that water somehow ends up on the floor of your basement, it does not stop there, flooding your basement, and gets into the sewer system instead.

Sewage Problems

Remember, if your sewage system is working well, you will not notice it. But when problems arise, you cannot miss them. Therefore, it is best to do a complete camera inspection of your system, say annually or bi-annually, and replace malfunctioning parts, or, if necessary, the entire system.

If you notice water in your basement – feel free to call us. We, AAADrain specialists, have comprehensive experience dealing with drain problems and waterproofing. We will do everything possible so that your home remains dry in any weather.

Drain Blockage – Unclog Drain Easily

drain blockage solutions

unclog drain

Hello friends.

Today we want to tell you how you can take care of your sewer system. The best thing you can do is try to avoid drain blockage and clogging. But what about maintenance?

Try to avoid getting a large amount of fat in your drains. It is better, for example, to wipe the pan with a paper towel to get rid of the fat as opposed to dumping it in the kitchen sink. Often, if there is a building trap, drain system may be blocked by external objects – by a tennis ball, for instance. It may get into the drain, for example, if a dog somehow got it into the toilet. So if you have a dog in the house, try to keep the washroom closed.

An old and proven way to remove fat from the walls of your sewer pipes is using baking soda. Dissolve a pack of soda in a gallon of warm water and slowly pour the substance down the kitchen sink.

You can also use chemical solutions to clean your sewer system. In this case, be sure to read the instruction manual, as these chemicals can be overly aggressive and may dissolve the pipe walls of the sewer system. Before chemical cleaning make sure that the cleaner is suitable for iron, copper and plastic pipes.

Remember, it is much easier and cheaper to prevent clogging or drain blockage, than to deal with their consequences.

Building traps get clogged often. If it is present in your sewer system we recommend replacing it with a back-to-back cleanout or installing a backwater valve.

If you can not unclog your drain, give us a call. At our disposal, we’ve got snakes of varying sizes and power, cameras. We will conduct comprehensive diagnostics of your system, and will remove drain blockages with a snake. Sometimes it is necessary to carry out a partial or complete replacement of the sewer system. We do all of that, and more. Furthermore, our work is licensed and covered by a liability insurance and WSIB.

All of our work on maintenance or replacement carried out as accurately and safely as possible. We respect you and your property. In addition, with every pipe replacement, we carry out camera inspection and cleaning, if necessary, for free of charge.

Basement leaks when it rains – prevention

Basement leaks prevention

Hello friends.

Autumn in full throttle and we would like to tell you what procedures are necessary to have a dry and secure basement ready for any weather.

But why fall, specifically?

Because fall, as a rule, is a season of big rains, and the roots that may have somehow gotten into your pipes have grown over the summer. This increases the possibility of a complete blockage or partial blockage of your sewer line. And if the pipe is already clogged, there is also a possibility of a backup.

To avoid this, it makes sense to perform a camera inspection, to determine the state of your pipes. And based on the results of the inspection, determine what to do next. If the line is completely clean, and the pipes are in good condition, there are no visible cracks and you don’t have a building trap – congratulations, you don’t have to do anything.

Building Trap Removal & Replacement

Building trap removal and replacement

Hello friends.

Today we would like to tell you more about building traps. As we’ve written about them before, we can clean it up and remove the blockage by a snake or plunger, but considering it’s specific design features we can not clear it completely.

Nowadays, each device has its own sanitary trap and therefore the presence of building trap is not only useless, but also problematic.

Why is that? It’s presence in the sewer line leads to the formation of blockage, which can cause flooding in your basement. The problem was so serious that in the 60s the sanitary building code had to be changed.

Very often tree roots find their way into traps and start growing, which is also a potential cause of blockage, running backup, and can cause cracks in these parts of the sewer system. The presence of the building trap on the main sewer line makes it impossible to clean the pipes completely and fully inspect the whole sewer system .

When the sewer system works well, most people do not even know about the existence of a building trap on the sewer line. Building trap is located close to the front wall, and can be either inside or outside the house.

Based on the aforementioned reason, and particularly given the fact that the building trap is on the main sewer line, even a little clogging can lead to running backup and the inability to use the drain system fully.

Therefore, we, AAADrain experts, recommend building trap removal. We have got 15 years of experience in our arsenal, we conduct building trap removal and replacement with a 2-way cleanout instead. 2-way cleanout significantly aids the process of cleaning and inspection with a camera and, if necessary, cleaning with snake.

Each replacement entitles you to a camera inspection of the whole sewer system.

Guarantee for such work is 20 years, just as our work on full and partial drain replacements.

Unclog sink

Unclog sink

Hello friends.

Today I want to tell you about our work, the tools we use, and how everything happens step by step.

Let’s assume you see water on concrete near the floor drain in your basement, after using a substantial amount of water around your house.
That water indicates that your sewer pipe clogged or damaged. To determine the problem, we use perform a camera inspection to see what had happened, and choose the best way to solve the problem.

unclog sink

Unblock sink

Depending on the problem, its magnitude, we can use the snake, which immediately eliminates the drain problem (unclog sink), whether it was a root causing an issue, or blockage, which would not help at all if the pipe collapsed. It should also be borne in mind that the mechanical snake is a heavy-duty machine, the frequent use of which can damage the pipe and tubes from the inside.

We could use a partial replacement of the pipe, to unclog sink, and with this type of work, we typically will set the cleanout. The cleanout is an access to your sewer pipe, which may come in handy in the future, especially if it is located outside. We can utilize the outdoor cleanout to perform a camera inspection or work with a mechanical snake without even needing to go inside the house.

Inside the house, very often clog small traps e.g. kitchen trap. You can unclog sink yourself using a plunger, but if this is not possible, or you have any difficulty, please call us. We will promptly unclog sink with a mechanical snake small diameter, and the problem will disappear.
However, there are situations when only digging and full or partial replacements can solve your sewer issues. AAADrain gives you a 25-year guarantee of serviceability on. In addition, for each digging project, an inspection with a camera and a mechanical snake, if necessary, will be performed for free.

With all our resources and experience, we are at your service with state-of-the-art drain cleaning & repair, waterproofing, and much more. Tasks, such as unclog sink, are not a problem for our experienced professionals.

Drain Cleaning, Sewage Pipes, Building Traps

Drain Cleaning

Hello friends.

Today I want to tell you about the drainage system. We will start off with sewage pipes. A sewage pipe gets not only pure water but also extra substances, such as soap remains, toothpaste, food, debris and other various types of waste. Among drainers, there are many stories about what is possible find in an old building trap.

Therefore, we sometimes we carry out the complete replacement of the sewage system. We perform replacing procedures of all floor drains, stacks, and branches, as well as install a back water valve to fully protect your home from rain water.

With this type of work, it is important to choose the right slope, so that water and all possible waste are moving towards the city drains at the same speed. If the angle is too high, water will run faster than the waste, which will clog the pipes and the backup. Who wants a wet basement with a bad smell?

The big problem with a small slope (that’s less than 1 degree) is calcium deposit. In residences, this substance occurs mostly from dishwashing when water runs off and does not wash out the tube walls. Over time, the entire pipe gets clogged, which makes us unable to use one of the most crucial parts of our system for drain cleaning.

drain cleaning

We would also like to leave a post scriptum about building traps. It is a very old style of sewer systems, which is now absolutely dated and unnecessary, since now, every plumbing device, such as a kitchen sink, toilet, sink, shower or bath, have their little trap, which is a trap for bad smells and external objects that could accidentally get into the system. In this case, we just work on drain cleaning with a snake. Building traps often get clogged or even damaged from tree roots. Therefore, we recommend removing the building trap even if the system is working well. About our next work, we’ll tell you in upcoming blog posts.

Basement Crack Sealing with Weeping Tile

Hello friends. Today I want to tell you about some of our recent work. We were sealing a crack in an old house with a basement made of blocks. In these cases, at first it is always necessary to identify the root of the problem, that is the spot where the water gets or might get into the basement.

At a first glance, a minor hole in the wall might not seem like a very big problem, but it can significantly worsen the condition of your life and your home should a critical situation arise. Following the discovery of a crack in the basement, we dig out a trench along the wall, then we clean the wall, allowing us to better see the crack itself. Sometimes, the crack may be stretching horizontally, so we extend the trench and dig up the basement foundation walls to change the weeping tile and fill it up from all sides with gravel.

Weeping Tile

Afterwards, we check the status of the remaining weeping tile using a camera or a water test. If the camera shows the remaining tile in a good condition, we simply fill up the crack hydraulic cement, but sometimes, the blocks are empty inside, so we fill them with masonry cement so the walls of your home are as reliable and strong as possible.

After cementing, we close up the wall with an aqua block and a yellow jack. Yellow Jack is basically a yellow polyurethane mesh, which prevents new cracks to close up the place.

Important note: it is known that the volume of water is less than the volume of ice. When freezing, the volume of water turning into ice increases, which lead to the worsening of cracks. Therefore, it is critical that we don’t allow the entrance of water into the wall outside.

We always carry out the work of this type without moving your furniture and without disrupting the rhythm of your daily life inside the house and the basement. Our work is WSIB licensed and most outdoor work we produce by hand, resulting in minimal damage to your landscape. Hire AAADrain to reliably fix any drain or water damage.
