Drain Cleaning: Blockage and Backup

Drain Cleaning

Hello friends.

Today we want to talk about drain cleaning.

A need for drain cleaning usually originates when you get a backup. Fortunately, in many cases, you can fix the problem yourself in a few steps.

First off, do not panic and use water. Take a look, and try to find where the backup originates from. You have several options:
• Basement floor drain
• Basement laundry
• Toilet or bathtub
• Kitchen sink

If the backup comes from the floor drain and the water returns to the basement after its use anywhere in your home, then the problem lies on the main line after the connection with the floor drain.

You can solve this problem with a big mechanical snake.

If a backup from the laundry reaches the basement, and the floor near the floor drain id dry, then the problem is usually located at the spot the stack connects with the drain line. If your stack also contains a cleanout, the problem can also be solved with a big mechanical snake.
You can rent a mechanical snake from stores like Home Depot and do everything yourself. This does not require any special knowledge or license. By doing it yourself you also save your money.

Blockages

Blockages of bathtubs, sinks and toilets not located in the basement can usually be solved with a manual plunger, present in almost every household.
Now I would like to stop on the causes of blockage in your pipes. These problems usually belong to either of these two categories:
• Human-caused
• Human-independent

Let us start with the first category. When washing dishes try to prevent the flow of food particles and excess fat into the sewage system. Use extra protection for your kitchen sink, wipe the oil with a paper towel and dispose of it in the trash.

Try to prevent foreign objects from getting into your sink. If you have a dog – keep the toilet shut. We have pulled out 11 dog toys once while replacing a trap.

Preventing a backup is not that difficult.

Also, make sure that your line does not contain a building trap.

If you still had a backup, and you cannot deal with it yourself, do not hesitate to call us. We will solve all your problems at a time convenient for you.
We have extensive and comprehensive experience coupled with the best equipment. All our work is licensed and covered by insurance.

Sewer Backup Prevention

Sewer Backup

In our view, regular maintenance of your sewer system plays an important role in preventing blockages or a sewer backup. This is very important as blockages or a sewer backup can cause flooding your basement. With regular maintenance, you can avoid it.

Sewer systems are designed in a way that you do not notice it when everything is working properly. Conversely, problems with sewage system are impossible to ignore.

The first symptoms of system failure are bad smells in your basement, a dry floor drain, or wet floor near the floor drain. If you notice these in your basement or do not remember the last time you had your sewer system inspected, then call us. We will perform an inspection to prevent sewer backups and blockages. This will cost you much cheaper than replacing the entire system in case of any problems in the future.

Causes

Blockage or a sewer backup may occur for various reasons, for example:
• Roots, which grew up on pipe connections
• A deposit of calcium
• Fats
• Hair, food remnants
• Shifts in ceramic pipes

Prevention Strategies

Regular inspection and cleaning can easily prevent all this. Cleaning will prevent a sewer backup, after which you may be forced to repair not only the drain, but also the entire basement.

Remember, maintenance is always cheaper than repair. Inspection, cleaning, and general maintenance of the drain system should play an important role in the operation of your home.

Drain Cleaning and Blockage Solutions

Drain and Pipe Cleaning

Hello friends.

Very often, customers have asked about cleaning the drain or a sewer pipe without resorting to technicians etc. Basic cleaning can be performed with baking soda. Dissolve one teaspoon of baking soda in a glass of water and pour it down the kitchen sink. Wait half an hour, then rinse with a large amount of hot water. This will wash away the remnants of fat from your trap and help avoid blockage in the future. In fact, most types of cleaning you can do on your own – you don’t need a license or special knowledge. Almost every house has a small hand plunger or snake, with which you will be able to remove all blockages in traps and washrooms of your household.

drain blockage

If you’ve got a clogged sewer, you can just rent a mechanical snake from Home Depot and run it on the spot where backup originates from – that’s usually the floor drain. You can also use chemical solutions to clean your pipes, but make sure that they are not aggressive to the materials from which your pipes are made of (copper, cast iron, or plastic). Also pay attention to your own safety – is advisable to use rubber gloves and goggles.

If you have trouble cleaning any drain, fully or partially, don’t hesitate to contact us. We have powerful manual and mechanical snakes of all sizes, we can easily alleviate any blockage in your kitchen, washroom, shower, or sewer.

Sometimes we might need to install a cleanout, to ensure penetration of the snake into the pipe. If the problem persists on the main sewer line even after snaking, we recommend a camera inspection, which will help us to evaluate the state of your tubes and establish the problem.

We, AAADrain experts have extensive knowledge and experience in service, maintenance, and replacement of drains and sewer systems. We are fully licensed, insured, approach every task responsibly and offer sensible solutions.

Basement leaks when it rains – prevention

Basement leaks prevention

Hello friends.

Autumn in full throttle and we would like to tell you what procedures are necessary to have a dry and secure basement ready for any weather.

But why fall, specifically?

Because fall, as a rule, is a season of big rains, and the roots that may have somehow gotten into your pipes have grown over the summer. This increases the possibility of a complete blockage or partial blockage of your sewer line. And if the pipe is already clogged, there is also a possibility of a backup.

To avoid this, it makes sense to perform a camera inspection, to determine the state of your pipes. And based on the results of the inspection, determine what to do next. If the line is completely clean, and the pipes are in good condition, there are no visible cracks and you don’t have a building trap – congratulations, you don’t have to do anything.

But, if you discovered one or more of these potential problems, then you can have us clean pipes with snake, perform full or partial replacement of your sewer line, replace your floor drains, and/or install a backwater valve.

Building Trap Removal & Replacement

Building trap removal and replacement

Hello friends.

Today we would like to tell you more about building traps. As we’ve written about them before, we can clean it up and remove the blockage by a snake or plunger, but considering it’s specific design features we can not clear it completely.

Nowadays, each device has its own sanitary trap and therefore the presence of building trap is not only useless, but also problematic.

Why is that? It’s presence in the sewer line leads to the formation of blockage, which can cause flooding in your basement. The problem was so serious that in the 60s the sanitary building code had to be changed.

Very often tree roots find their way into traps and start growing, which is also a potential cause of blockage, running backup, and can cause cracks in these parts of the sewer system. The presence of the building trap on the main sewer line makes it impossible to clean the pipes completely and fully inspect the whole sewer system .

When the sewer system works well, most people do not even know about the existence of a building trap on the sewer line. Building trap is located close to the front wall, and can be either inside or outside the house.

Based on the aforementioned reason, and particularly given the fact that the building trap is on the main sewer line, even a little clogging can lead to running backup and the inability to use the drain system fully.

Therefore, we, AAADrain experts, recommend building trap removal. We have got 15 years of experience in our arsenal, we conduct building trap removal and replacement with a 2-way cleanout instead. 2-way cleanout significantly aids the process of cleaning and inspection with a camera and, if necessary, cleaning with snake.

Each replacement entitles you to a camera inspection of the whole sewer system.

Guarantee for such work is 20 years, just as our work on full and partial drain replacements.

Sewer Pipe Replacement – Full and Partial – Sewer Repair

Sewer pipe replacement

Hello friends. Today we want to tell you about situations that would require full or partial replacement of sewer pipes. Such situation can arise when, for example, something as basic as a tree root has gotten into your sewer pipe.

Sewer Pipe Replacement

The presence of that tree root, for instance, will likely cause backup blockage and sooner or later will negatively affect your everyday life at home. Furthermore, if the backup gets into your home, it may bring bacteria and viruses along that can seriously damage your health in the form of diseases and various disorders. If there is a problem in your sewer system and the issue is present only in one spot, we recommend a partial sewer pipe replacement (replacements are at least 5 feet long). However, if the fault is present in multiple spots, you will need a complete replacement of the sewage system (complete sewer pipe replacement). We usually carry it out during the camera inspection process, which helps us diagnose the problem, then locate it and come up with solutions.

After removing the blockage by a replacing the sewer pipe, we also carry out a re-inspection of your entire system up to city pipes with a camera, for free. During partial replacements we install two back-to-back clean outs, and, if needed, we can also install a backwater valve, which will help protect your home from flooding. With full replacements, as well as with partial replacements of pipes, we strongly recommend that you install backwater valve and be sure to install the clean out. During the installation of backwater valve you can get a rebate up to $1,250 from the city of Toronto.

In some special cases, when performing a complete replacement we can use a non-digging technique, thereby leaving your landscape intact and flawless.

If your sewage system is not working as you would like – do not worry. Call us and experts from AAADrain will eliminate any problem in a timely manner.
